I just came back after a half a year - year break and I find 3 of my chars have Mini pets now xD. One of them is dah purple woot. I'm just going to end up selling all of them lol.

Each birthday minipet is from a specific series. For example Miniature Devourers are all from First Year presents whereas Miniature Aatxes are all from the Second Year series. Therefore they don't really have to tell you what year they're from.

Check either of the wikis for lists of which minipets came from which series (or other source).

I could agree with giving Miniaatures as extrmely rare rewards in Reward chest chests (both PvE and PvP ones) or being able to get them with Tournament reward points (a LOT of them), but not to this.

The mini pet does not. The present does. When you turn 1/2/3 years old, you recieve a present in your inventory. When you open it, you get the mini. The preser will say which year it is from.

What sucks is there are players who have been around since the beginning who deleted their original characters almost a year into playing because they got tired of them. Therefore, you have players who were unaware of the 1st birthday surprise and were playing their game casually as Anet intended.

I'm not agreeing with the OP though, I'm suggesting there should be some kind of compensation for first-day players who deleted characters to reroll for something a little more interesting. Like me.

Maybe anet should occasionally add to the list so that characters who were made later still have a bit of a chance to get "newer' b-day presents. Also Phasing in and out presents over time could be fun to increase the randomness so someone doesn't know what he's going to get. Obviously the later birthdays would need "better" presents... but it'd still be nice if there were a little more uncertainty to the whole thing.

Believe it or not im pretty sure when they make b-day presents they arent thinking "I wonder how much they will be able sell this one for?"

They are released when a character reaches a certain age, it just so happens that there is a common birthday for some of our characters(namely those that were created on the first day the servers went live). If that first day was instead staggered, then you would be seeing a slower release of all the minis, but as that can't be helped, this thread is moot.

They are a reward for playing longer, so those who started playing first should get them first. Besides, your only gripe is that you can't make as much money as someone who started earlier than you. It's like saying that newbies should get 100k at character creation and more drops since someone who started earlier has had more time to farm and make money.

What are you guys thinking that Minis should be given out to guys that havn't played for a year/2 years etc.

i've had since the beginning and I got a seige Turtle first year and Aatxe second year. On my Sin I got a Jungle troll. ON my Monk I got a Mini Burning Titan

. On my Old Necro (deleted) I got another seige turtle I traded for a necrid horseman. I got a pig,veresh,hydra, and a few more from trade. I feel that i like the ones i get from B Day presents better than trading because THEY ARE MEANT TO REWARD YOU FOR LOYALTY TO THE GAME AND NOT BEING DUMB AND DELETING YOUR FIRST/SECOND CHARACTERS EARLY ON.

Dumb? the characters weren't even a year old for many of those "dumb" players and there was no hints or warnings given to players to keep their original characters around. I made my first characters in a hurry and didn't really enjoy them after a few months, so I rerolled and lost out. I wouldn't mind some kind of reward for having a 3 year old ACCOUNT that has been active the whole time...if not minipets on each character then something else.

As other people said, the whole point of the birthday present is to reward players for keeping their characters around. They aren't released at the same time, they are released on the date of character creation. Of course this means that a lot of presents will be available on the character creation date. If you created your character earlier, you get your present earlier.

Let's see ....... 16 characters, some coming up on third birthday, a couple coming up on second birthday and the rest have been around 2+ years. Presents ..... 2 grape and the rest plain old white. So far nothing of value to even consider selling. Maybe I'll get lucky this year?
